More room for physical, personal, or psychological space is a common desire. Frequently, that impulse for expansion is constrained; like any quantity, space (or “room”) is limited. However, it is out of the conflict between wanting more but having less that design occurs. The quest for more room sponsored a series of ingenious developments of architectural space, constituting a discontinuous genealogy of space and its substitute. MORE ROOM exhibited a collection of models, texts, videos, and realities, each offering a means of understanding more room as both an abstraction and specification of space.
