Designed to accommodate everyone from expert to novice, the TVLab offers virtual production and capture technology resources, including video cameras, 360 cameras, drones, and projectors. The table-mounted robotic arm combines immersive technology with analog fabrication. Students in all areas of study at Taubman College can experiment with the most innovative tools possible to help communicate their ideas to the broader world using emergent visualization techniques. Various courses incorporate the TVLab as a space to share and learn. The TVLab anticipates how quickly technology changes and is an ever-evolving, co-designed space developed in partnership with students and faculty to support how we think and work. This attention to the broader significance of XR enhances students’ ability to develop projects that have meaning in the real world. XR is transforming professional practice, and positions related to XR and visualization are increasingly in demand in firms and organizations, large and small. Knowledge and comfort using new tools and techniques expand career opportunities for Taubman College students. The TVLab is a space for the Taubman community to work on projects with peers, and it is also a gathering place for teaching, workshops, competitions, and exhibitions. Taubman students have access to additional university resources, including a wide selection of 3D software applications at the nearby Duderstadt Center. Engaging with the hybridization of human forms, objects, and materials, participants crafted full-body puppets that probed theoretical and material questions around representation, metamorphosis, and movement. Supported by puppet fabricator Alma Roccella, the workshop culminated in an informal performance, offering a dynamic platform for dialogue at the intersection of art, craft, and critical inquiry. She has taught SCI-Arc Bartlett School of Architecture and the Architectural Association and previously served as a Senior Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects.&nbsp; Her work focusses on integrating augmented reality and robotic fabrication within architectural design, discussing how her research bridges digital and physical environments to create interactive and adaptive spaces, while implementing an innovative use of generative design, multi-agent systems, and human-computer interaction. This workshop explored the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) into architectural design, focusing on how AR can enhance the dynamic interaction between digital and physical environments. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University, where he received the graduating Faculty award and the Peter Lee and Kenneth Russo Award for Design Excellence. He later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Architecture, receiving the Kanter-Tritsch Prize in Energy and Architectural Innovation, the Paul Cret T-Square Fellowship, the Van Alen Traveling Fellowship, the Dales Fellowship, the Kohn Fellowship, the Schenk-Woodman Merit Award and upon graduating was awarded the Arthur Spayd Brooke Memorial Silver Medal. This workshop focuses on advanced digital techniques including mesh modelling, image processing, and generative AI workflows. His work explores the politics of technology and cities. In this workshop he taught students methodologies that delved into the exploration of how urban environments, populations, and events are coming under ever increasing regimes of realtime knowing. It is a Mixed Presence, Mixed Reality Installation. The project utilizes invasive plant species (weeds downloaded from Quixel Bridge and seeds found in local yards and forests), interactive robotics, Twitch Chat Commands, fallen tree branches (fashioned into a primitive hut-like room scale VR space), and free dirt from Craigslist Freeto create a massively interactive game and garden, where architecture origin myths are replayed, made and destroyed. The origin stories and practices of Architecture are tethered to notions of stability in relation to and reflective of the natural world. This project locates itself within our world that is evermore capturable and ever more realistically rendered and simulated, all amidst total ecological collapse.
